anyone any decent or even indecent theories as to what denis o brien is up to in his purchases of independent news and media shares? it is difficult to understand what his ultimate objective is unless he can concince sir anthony to sell out which seems unlikely.

Personally (although I have no inside information) I would say that O'Brien wants the power in Ireland that comes with owning the Independent group. He looked upset at the indignity of his appearances at the tribunal and no government will be as eager to see him hauled before a future version if he has the ability to swing elections using his newspapers.

presumably everybody has a price which if true would make inm shares an interesting punt.
