Auto accident while uninsured
Hello,
Today, while driving my wifes vehicle, I was in an accident. It was technically my fault and there was damage though I'm not sure how much (bumper pushed in). First accident and I felt terrible about it, I'm in college which pretty much implies living from paycheck to paycheck. Well turns out my wife decided not to pay the insurance on her van (I have just the min on my car, and I checked again to make sure). I'm in Ohio and it turns out there is a 90 day suspension for driving with out insurance. This is really bad since I commute to school, not to mention what ever damages I'm going to have to pay. My question is what is going to happen. I plan to call the person I hit and tell them I have no insurance, who else do I need to call? When will they take my licences away and is there anyway I can prevent that (other than a time machine
)
Thanks

You would want to try to avoid police involvement if you can, given that you are describing not only driving an uninsured vehicle, but leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
If I were you I would avoiding making any admissions whatsoever, unless you first consult an Ohio lawyer. That is, it would be the right thing to do, to contact the driver and offer to cover the damage, but I would avoid making any admissions such as my being the driver, causing the collision, or leaving the scene of the accident afterward. Then I would borrow the money to pay for their damages, and consider myself lucky that I am not facing criminal charges. (And, of course, I would get insurance for the vehicle I'm driving.)

Oh no, I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in my post. I did not leave the scence, we called the police, they came and I was cited for unassured clear distance. I was under the assumtion I did have insurance but later found out that my wife had decided to drop the coverage on her vehicle due to money issues. I'm just wondering what I should expect from all of this. I've talked with the owner of the other vehicle and will be making arrangements to pay for the minimal damage occured. My primary concern now is my drivers licences since I commute to school. Is there anything I can do to avoid losing my licences? This all happened in Ohio.
Perhaps you'll be lucky and the police won't notice that you weren't actually insured.
