Anyone else lose lots of money this month?

Got my statement from my financial advisor, I lost $2,600 in one month from my investments, most of which is RRSP investments. I moved my account to this person because I was doing so badly on my own, but never this bad.

How'd you folks do with the market drop?
Im up 5% over the last 30 days without monthly contribution in the mix..
Up 23% on the year...

Avg % of RSP since I started one in '98 is almost 21%. even during the tech bubble...(short selling did me well).

And it is a SDRSP.. no broker for me....
Our RRSPs are making money (probably lost some over the past few months, but are still up overall), but our non registered funds lost - in fact, over the past 5 years, since we switched advisors, they've lost money. We're pretty ticked, as his projection showed the non registered almost doubling over 5 years, and they lost 10 - 12%. Next upswing and he can kiss our 6 figure portfolio goodbye.

i call bs. you can't short sell in an rsp.
I'm down about 6.25% this month for my non-registered account. Irritating yes, but nothing to freak out over. I'm looking to buy more now to bring acb down.

My RRSP is faring a little worst since I have a significant interest in energy. But that's ok, since my RRSP still has 30+ years to grow.
*sigh*

As of today, I'm down 7.5%.... overall combined registered & non-registered. Switched managers about a couple months ago. Too soon to make any real judgements on their calls.

I try not to look/think of my portfolio too often. I keep telling myself I'm in for the long haul..... but it's hard nonetheless.

This after I started my investing life in 1999... and you know what happened then. Real Estate is looking more and more attractive.
I put some money into Japan (index and growth funds), which are down 15% since I bought in February. That's even worse than oil & gas during the past month. What's up with that?
Since March 2006, my portfolio have decreased about 10%...
However, that is still up YTD for 2006....however not by much anymore...
But I am a long-term investor...so no need to worry yet.

No you cannot....but you can contribute from the Margin Account to the RSP.. KIS to stick to topic.. without this Im sure it would be much worse...
Down 6.4% over the last month.
Well, I've never made money since swtiching from straight GICs for RRSPs to actual investing. That was just over ten years ago. I am nearly 50, so I don't have much time left to do something. Told my wife, I should just give up and buy a new SL.
Down a bit, not too much.
Maybe 1-2% on the YTD? I wasn't doing too hot in the early months anyways beacuse of a lot of US/Intl equity..
Didn't lose any money cause I didn't have to sell.

For comparison, here's the close of the various markets from yesterday and the YTD % performance.

Market, Close, gain/drop, %, YTD %

Nikkei 14,218.60 -614.41 or -4.14% YTD: -11.75%

Hang Seng 15,234.42 -387.02 or -2.48% YTD: +2.41%

FTSE 100 5476.50 -144.40 or -2.57% YTD: -2.53%

CAC 40 4,616.16 -107.02 or -2.27% YTD: -2.10%

DAX 5,283.84 -111.71 or -2.07% YTD: -2.30%

Dow Jones 10,792.58 -99.34 or -0.91% YTD:+0.70%

S&P 500 1,236.40 -15.90 or -1.27% YTD: -0.95%

NASDAQ 2,091.32 -43.74 or -2.05% YTD: -5.17%

TSX COMP 11,197.58 -193.12 or -1.70% YTD: -0.66%

Note that the YTD % on the foreing markets have not been translated to CDN$.

As you can see, only the Hang Seng is showing positive returns YTD. The DOW is barely positive. When you take currency into the picture, it is actually negative.
Last month - YES
YTD - no
Last year - definitely NO!
Its been painful, but I yanked all my money out from stocks. All of it. I'm gonna sit this one out in the sidelines. Will be watching all my favourite stocks like a hawk and will try to buy when I think its gone low enough.
