I just decided to call Bank of America retention to inquire about a lower purchase rate. The rep was so nice and professional. She immediately lowered my rate to 5.9% for purchases and balance transfers.
BofA never ceases to amaze me. They have increased my limit more than $6,000 within 2 years without hard inquires. Now this. I only wish I had rewards on this card. :-/ Oh well, can't have it all. LOL
Just a heads up for everyone. Obviously 7.9% is not their lowest rate.
I got the 5.9% this morning...Love BofA

- 8004me- Congrats on your lower rate!! I am so impressed with BofA service.

Sure thing. This is the link I used:

Good luck!!
I have to agree with the poster. Bank of America does do what they can to make their customers happy once a customer expresses dissatisfaction... today at the drivethrough the teller asked if my two maltese dogs ( my babies ) would like a treat. Always humerous to get milkbones at the bank drive thru. :)

Wow, that's even better. Thanks vghost. I definately bookmarked that. :-)
After reading, I called BofA retention department to ask for the lower APR for purchases. I told her that I need to a lower rate for purchasing a big screen tv,She told me that I need to hold the line for seconds. She came back to tell me that my Visa Platinum ia qualified for 5.9% fixed for purchases and BT and 19.99% for caah advances. She also told me that it is intro rate and she is very nice. She also told me that I will receive the terms from the mail. Thanks foe the info, miles. It is a lowest rate of all my cards. I love BofA.
Ron.
Just got my card yesterday, gotta love the rates that they are giving out.
Did you get the mini card?
Best regards,
Mirage
Mirage,
I got minicard three months ago and it is very nice. Did you get leather mini-card leather holder?
Ron.

Ron, no. I did not know that was an option. I plan I slipping it into my wallet.

faztcobra,
5.9% is not intro rate and ithe rate is good as long as the account is good standing. Sorry I missed the word "NOT".
Ron.
Mirage,
They enclosed the info about minicard cover with the mincard and it is free. I think I post it earlier and here is the message link:

Ron.
I was just approved two days ago for the 9.9 fixed plat card.
I have yet to receive or activate my card (naturally).
Do you need to have your account open for some period of time to get the 5.9?
Have you tried, Mirage?
Yep, BofA is my best CC. Great CS, generous increases, and competitive rates.
Calling on Monday to see if I can get that 5.9%....
Well, I think I screwed up my chance for an increase anytime soon (b/c I had it close to my limit & didn't make large payments). If I pay them off completely in one bulk payment and then call, after about 3 mths inactivity, do you think I might get an increase then? They are the best card I have too, I just got too happy with it ;).
PS Limit is only 500 now.
Thx!
Ron- Congrats!! I'm glad others are successful as well. This is such a great rate.
Mirage- I would definitely get the mini card. It has come in handy for me several times. I have left my wallet/checkbook at home when going to pick up an order to go at a restaurant or to pick up items from the store. Dreading I'd have to make a trip home and back, it dawned on me.....I have my mini card. Definitely saved the day!!
Also, order the leather case. It really looks good. :-)
NiceGuy- It wouldn't hurt to call retention and ask about the rate. Maybe you should activate the card first? I hope you have success. If they won't give it to you yet, use the card, carry a small balance several times and pay it off. I do this regularly. I think BofA likes when you carry any type of balance occasionally. They have raised my limit over $6,000 in just two years without an inquiry (would have been more, but I've only called 2x's for an increase). I believe this process helps your internal score with them. JMO though. Good luck!!

Trina, I think it is very good to make large payments on any card. However, if you are looking for an increase, I wouldn't let the card sit idle. I would use it regularly and make the large payments. I have found it difficult to receive large increases or rate reductions from issuers when I haven't been using their card. This is just my experience though.
Just for anyone who's curious, I called retention and asked for the 5.99% - the guy said no because my card is only 8 months old. He said I might try calling back next month.
Oh well... :)

My brother in-law has the BofA Gold and he did a BT transfer for close to the CL max. He did this about 9 months ago and he has yet to make a purchase on it. As of today when I spoke with him he has yet to receive a CLI.
He's not too concern, but I'm wondering if him not making a purchase is keeping him from getting a CLI.
At his point I have too much credit as I don't know how to keep them all active. I did manage to BT two of them and now thinking of BT the wife's balance onto the BofA to generate activity.
Thanks for the info on the mini-card cover.
NiceGuy, nope did not try for the reduction but I figure at this point I may be getting a 4% BT rate if I leave the card idle for a month or so.
Let us know if your going for it.
Best regards,
Mirage
miles,
It sound like the same nice lady to lower my rate and it is lowest rate of all my card. 5.9% fixed for purchases and BT and I think it is the same offer. I ha ve another Platinum Visa and I have good rate for BT ( prime rate until paid off and purchases rate is 9.9%. I'm not going to change that Visa. Thanks for info again.
In order to get that low 5.9% fixed, I think that you need to have the card more than a year. I don't know it made difference having a Advantage checking and savings account and overdraft LOC with them.
Ron.
okay I called my brother in law this morning and told him that a CLI should be here soon.
He looked at his records and noted to me that he has had the account since Feb/2002 with no CLI. I'm guessing he's going to have to make a purchase before a CLI is made.
Btw, he has never missed a payment but more often than not only makes the min. due.
Best regards,
Mirage
No dice for me.
R told me that since my entire bal is already at 4%(from BTs), he couldnt lower my rate from 11.99. Doh! Guess I won't be using BofA for purchases anytime soon.
I just called BofA and they gave me the 5.99% rate!
She seemed kind of hesitant at first, and I am such a coward about asking for this kind of stuff. The BofA is really our only CC for the time (I'm not counting my two cc's from subprime hells that I have sock drawed away) and we do use the account a lot and keep it about 5 - 30% utilization. Also, it has been almost exactly 1 year since we have had the account, so maybe that helped get the rate?
Also, I recently did a BT with them for the 4% offer they have going, but I don't have any other accounts with them.
I am really impressed with the CS of BofA.....
Thanks for the post Miles:)

Congrats Cinderella.. Success creates more Success
After reading these posts, I called BofA today to have my 9.9 rate reduced. I didn't specify what APR I wanted. After being placed on hold for 30 seconds, the rep. offered 5.9 for purchases but said that my 19.99 for cash advances would stay the same. Then she said she was wrong about that. The new cash rate would be 5.9 also. I've only had the account for 7 months.

I wouldn't care if CASH ADVANCES were 68.99%
With BT's so easy...WHY DO A CASH ADVANCE???
I know this is cc talk here but if you obtained a mortgage through a BRANCH of B of A don;t call a broker like myself....deal directly with them, for 300 bucks you should be able to have your rate dropped (paperwork costs) and be on yer way.
This will not work if you went through a broker or B of A's "mortgage department" but if you went through a branch this might be the cat's meow.
Oh, and if the rate is a lil higher then a broker......figure out the closing costs and how long you'll be in the home, chances are you will be better off going with the B of A deal.
