Applying for a job while on a tourist visa

hello po sa mga nandito! i just arrived two weeks ago on a tourist visa at gusto ko po sana mag apply as an English tutor sa mga institutes, for a possible visa sponsorship. pero napansin ko po na karamihan sa mga na-inquiran ko na ay naghahanap ng working visa or proper visa.

posible po ba na may mapasukan as an english tutor while on a tourist visa, or pano po ba ang dapat gawin para magka working visa? technically po kasi di ba while on a tourist visa, hindi ka naman dapat nag aapply kaya baka hindi ako i-entertain ng mga institutes na ito. meron po kaya kayong mairerefer na mga institutes na mag eentertain sa applicants with my status(tourist)? na memeet ko naman po ang mga requirements nila except nga lang sa visa status.

thanks.:)
Hi Pinoywriter! Welcome to Japan, Kabayan.

Hello pinoywriter,

Technically, PWEDE kang mag-APPLY for work while on a tourist visa, pero HINDI ka pwedeng magtrabaho. Please note the "technical" difference.

The proper procedure for those who are holding tourist visas is: look for a potential employer and apply for work, change your visa status from tourist to working (usually impossible without the sponsorship of the employer), start working ONLY AFTER you have gotten your working visa.

Please note that if you are a Filipino citizen, what applies to Americans, Europeans, Australians and other first world citizens does not apply to you. Because of certain exchange agreements, many of these nationalities can work here while visiting. Not in the case of Pinoys - so do not attempt to do the same thing.

As for language schools or institutes who are willing to entertain you - medyo mahirap. They cannot hire you while you are on a tourist visa, since they will get into trouble with the law. Most of them will also not be willing to sponsor you. Why should they be bothered to issue all sorts of supporting papers and guarantee you, when there is no lack of "native" English teachers that they can pick off the street and discard when not needed like tissue paper?

hello Tonyang! salamat sa reply. yes, I'm enjoying my stay here so far kaya nga nakakaisip maghanap ng trabaho hehe..pero wag kayo mag worry, wala akong plan mag illegal worker. that's why I was asking for the proper process nga.

Welcome to TF Pinoywriter!

hi Pointblank, thanks din sa reply and clarifications. don't worry, like I've said to Tonyang, wala akong planong maging illegal worker. I just wanted to know the process of finding a job and eventually getting a working visa nga at kung pwede ko syang gawin while on tourist visa.

Keep us posted ha!
actually, pwede kang mag-work dito kung: makakahanap ka ng willing silang maging sponsor mo or in short, employer mo. it's just a matter of changing the category of your visa ( from tourist into working visa; and/or specialist in humanities/international services)

for further information, you may call or go to the immigration and ask for the proper requirements. marami ng ganyang cases ng mga pinoy dito sa japan, tulad nila, makakakuha ka rin ng working visa! good luck kabayan, kaya mo yan!
