I'm not sure what to do with my visa application...pero if you had the same experience or advice please share it with me...This is the situation:
I have been living and working here in Japan for 5 years and six months now. When I first came here I had an Instructor Visa - with three years validity. My job is a full-time High School ESL teacher. Medyo sinuwerte ako dahil maganda at solo teaching ang job ko from year 2000 until this time.
When I applied for an extension, I got another Instructor Visa - which is valid for another three years.
And this time, medo sumablay yata ang suwerte ko. My teaching job is until March 30 na lang. Sa ngayon I have been applying to every single teaching job pero wala pang sigurado.
Ngayon, nag-research ako at ayon sa research na ginawa ko...eh qualified na pala ako to apply for a permanent visa dahil sa type of visa ko and and period of stay ko dito sa Japan. Sa awa ng Diyos eh sa buong panahon ko na 5 years and 6 months tuloy-tuloy ang work ko.
Now, may mga questions ako...please paki sagot..
1. Gaano ba katagal ang application for permanent visa?
2. Ano ba ang mga requirements?
I asked my school to give me the needed papers for the Immigration, binigyan naman ako.
Thanks!
Hi ruby,
Napagusapan na ang tungkol dito a few times. One existing thread that I found is at:
http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235 0
Baka nandyan ang info na kailangan mo. Good luck sa PR application. :)
Thank for the link....Yes, I have been reading all the posts about Permanent Visa...I have found some of the answers to my questions. However, I would like to know if someone here got approved for a PR visa even without any Japanese spouse. Also, what are the requirements if not married to a Japanese?
If there is someone here with the same problem or case like mine..please let me know!
Salamat po!
kelangan ata 6 months before mag expire ang visa mo kelangan mo na mag-apply for permanent resident status..
about the requirements, magkaiba kasi tayo ng status,, hmnn ill check my checklist na galing sa immigration office..
as far as i remember: u need to convince the Jap justice ministry to give u permanent visa, kelangan mo pa ata ng letter which contains the reason why the jap gov should give u a permanent resident visa.. sabi nila mas mganda raw kung nihongo..
good luck po sa application nyo
I have already my permanent visa but were in diffirent cases,im married to japanese kasi . its 6 months before your visa expires . Here in Yamanashi i got my PV for 1month only .mas maganda siguro go to immigration office and ask them too.
goodluck

You are right that the road to a PR is only about time and length of stay in Japan. As far as I know - the length of stay part is often relaxed for spouses of nationals (Five years of stay will qualify one for a Permanent Residence Permit) Those not married to nationals will need at least ten years of permitted stay in Japan to qualify for permanent residence.
1. The length of wait for the approval vary - but sa amin sa Sapporo - it only took three weeks.
2. I don't have the official list of requirements but aside from the length of stay, you just have to show that you have a steady job. Show them your yearly earnings form to prove your financial stability. Fill out some forms, pay 8000 yen in tax stamps and just wait.
The extension permit and the PR. The bureau will cancel the extension once na ma-aprubahan ang PR. If you want to be convinced kung qualify ka - it would be best to go to the immigration office and ask at the helpdesk. I'm sure matutulungan ka nila.
Goodluck.

hi ! re the permanent visa, it will takes only 3months for approval...
and they will cancel ur extension pag na-approved ka...
kase ako married and permanent nako... 5yrs palang ako ngaun dito
good luck !!!
If you can prove that your monthly earning is at least 250,000 yen, then you can self support yourself and extend your working visa. You will not need a sponsor if you are earning well and have a steady job.
There are many contract teaching jobs. You will have to send your application to everyone of them. gaijinpot.com has a good list. try also aeon because they are in dire need of english teachers. Go to a hellowork office near you, they have a bunch of english teaching jobs available.
Worrying will not solve your problem. You need to go out and apply to as many schools as you can.
FYI, para sa mga dating nag-estudyante muna bago nagtrabaho...I confirmed with the Immigration Office a few weeks ago na kailangan talaga ng 5 years of working experience. :(
Meaning kung nag-aral ka ng 8 taon at nag-trabaho lang afterwards, you will need to live at least 13 years in Japan in order to be eligible for a PR status! Parang unfair ano? In my opinion, mas may alam tayo tungkol sa Japan (language, society, culture), at mas exposed sa Japanese (professors, classmates, dorm mates, officemates, etc.) kesa sa mga pumasok to work agad (assuming pareho 5 years nang tumira sa Japan). Sana i-consider ng GOJ ito in the future. As of now shouganai ne...batas eh. In my case, I will need to work two more years. :O
Dagdag: isang requirement ay ang proof sa pagbabayad ng tax for the last 3 years. Kung kailangan na nagtrabaho ka muna ng 5 years, bakit kaya hindi 5 years din sa tax? Dapat yata sa "Musings" itong last paragraph :D
maybe its better for you to go and inquire directly to the immigration... take ur chances...
kse iba iba rin naman ang makukuha mong idea dito... much better kun mag iinquire ka na at dun mismo makakuha ng advice whats best for you... di ba ? u still have a lots of time mag prepare...
Hi gud, yun na nga po ang ginawa ko:I confirmed with the Immigration Office a few weeks ago

As the Japanese saying goes - case by case daw. Although meron namang *law to guide everybody, it all goes down sa interpretation ng immigration inspector pa pagsusumitehan mo.

*later ko na lang post yong link ng requirements - dehins ko makita kung saan ko inilagay...
@maple
@rainer2005
Ngee +10 noon? :O Ang sabi sakin nung nakausap ko (Shinagawa Immigration), at least 10 years daw dapat na tumira, at sa 10 years na yun, dapat daw at least 5 years na nag-trabaho. Cleared ko lang yung unang condition.
@v_wrangler
Thanks for the link about getting Japanese nationality.

All the while I was thinking about Naturalization. Anyways, I read somewhere that there have been plans to relax the PR requirements for foreign graduates of Japanese Universities - di ko lang matandaan ang link. BTW, Tanong ko lang - ano ba ang line of work mo?
getting japanese citizenship here is so difficult kung karaniwang madlang people ka lang. i think ang priority nila in approving someone to have a japanese citizenship is that person's contribution to japan's community. kung meron kang nagawang maganda sa japan, socially, malaki ang chance mo na mabigyan ka ng japanese sitizenship. one best example here are some brazilian soccer player, like santos and ramos. other person who get japanese citizenship are those active in social welfare activity whose primarily activities are here in japan. meron na rin akong nakilala na ganito ang case nya.
other foreigner get their japanese citizenship by marrying to japanese. eto ata ang pinakamabilis na way at more common ngayon. kaya ngayon eh medyo naghihigpit na rin sila or medyo naging strict na iyong checking nila for this.
just a piece of info.:)
